FIM Superstock 1000 Cup, 7. Race in Silverstone
Silverstone was the venue for round 7 of the FIM Superstock 1000 Cup and Markus Reiterberger of Team alpha Racing struggled a bit with the typical British weather conditions only managing a third row start. When the sky cleared for race day Markus found some confidence and scored a ninth place finish.
The ever changing weather conditions with quite a bit of rain made the setup of the bike during the free practice and qualifying sessions very difficult and Reiti clocked a 2'20.738 in Saturday’s second timed session to give him 12th place on the grid.
Race day presented itself with a dry track so Reiti was positive for a good fight. He came off the line in typical style but couldn’t find a fluent rhythm. But as a fighter he still picked up one or the other of his competitors to finish the race in 9th position and add another seven points to his total. As some of his nearest rivals didn’t score any points he even moved up the championship ranking to 6th.
Now the 5-week break has to be filled with some test sessions to work out the perfect setup of the BMW S 1000 RR and give the young Bavarian all he needs to perform at his best. With the next race being on home soil at the legendary Nürburgring Markus and the team want to impress the local crowd.
Markus: “It was a real up and down weekend, weather and riding wise. It is still very difficult for me to adapt to these changing track conditions. I definitely have to work on that but this weekend we have to be content with this 9th place finish.”
Mr. Hofmann: “Markus struggled to find a good setup of the bike and the changing weather situation didn’t help either. Now we really need to test bef
ore the next race at the Nürburgring so to be able to race for a Top5 finish.”
