FIM Superstock 1000 Cup, 6. Race in Brno
The 6th race of the FIM Superstock 1000 Cup was to be held on the fast circuit in Brno and team alpha Racing and it’s rider Markus Reiterberger was full of confidence knowing the track well and being one of the favourite circuits of the young Bavarian. The free practice and qualifying session were run in dry conditions but came race day the riders had to fight on a very wet track.
Despite a small crash in the first qualifying session Markus finished the first day on a provisional second row. The team made some changes to the set-up of the BMW S 1000 RR for the final timed practice but those didn’t work out as planned and “Reiti” had to be content with P10.
On Sunday the sky turned black and the Superstock-riders were greeted with pouring rain. The short morning warm up was all that was left to work out a proper rain setting and Markus had to face a wet race, something he hasn’t experienced in the last few seasons. Therefore he was lacking some confidence and trust in the first few laps of the main event. When he finally got to grips with the slippery surface the first group of riders were gone already and he had to settle for 13th place at least securing some valuable points for the general classification.
In two weeks time the team will travel across the Channel and conquer the prestigious track in Silverstone.
Markus Reiterberger: „What a disappointing weekend it was. Being one of my favourite tracks I was really looking forward to Brno but right from the beginning I was not feeling it. And with not having raced in the wet for years the race was more than difficult.”
Josef Hofmann: „That was not what we were expecting from this race. The whole weekend the team was trying hard to find the right set-up and then the rain did the rest. In the end Markus salvaged some points and now we have to keep our heads up and try again in Silverstone.”
