FIM Superstock 1000 Cup, 10th race in MAGNY-COURS/FRA
The final round of the World Superbike championship held on the circuit in Magny-Cours/France also marked the last outing for the young guns of the FIM Superstock 1000 Cup. Markus Reiterberger of Team alpha Racing finished the season in 6th place overall after earning another top10 result with a fine ride under more than slippery conditions.
As usual the race weekend started Friday with a free practise and the first qualifying session. The team worked in a professional manner to set-up the bike and Reiti made the most of it putting his BMW S 1000 RR on the provisional front row.
Saturday’s riding went a bit more harsh and he lost a few positions dropping down to 7th still good enough for the second row.
Sunday came and again mother nature took over spilling lots of water onto the French track. So the morning’s warm up was to be used to work out a proper rain setting but Markus crashed giving his mechanics a hard time to have the bike ready for the race shortly after. With perfect teamwork the bike was back in shape and just before the closing of the pit lane Markus made his way onto the grid.
With a good start the young Bavarian set his sights on a top5 finish but only after passing a few corners in the race Reiti just managed to avoid a crashed competitor loosing valuable places. In 15th position he rejoined the fight closing in fast on the riders ahead when the slippery conditions took it’s toll again and Markus had to go through the grass to keep it on two wheels. Then it was just about bringing the bike home in one piece and earning some precious points for the championship. When the chequered flag fell he did that with a 10th place finish which outs him in 6th overall for the season. This meant missing out on his goal of finishing the championship in the top5 but with the podium in his home race at the Nürburgring he made his presence felt for sure.
2012 is now in the books but the plans for next race season have already begun and beside another attempt in the FIM Superstock 1000 Cup even a ride in the German IDM Superbike could be an option.
